Unlock the Mystery of Bone Loss


This is a list to discuss with your health care practitioner. While not all labs may be necessary, we experience bone loss for different reasons. This list covers a range of reasons. Stay diligent till you know what is going on in your body.

Basic Labs

CBC for complete blood count-general health status.

Comprehensive blood chemistry panel for body system and organ functioning.

TSH for thyroid function.

Vitamin for Vitamin D deficiencies.


Additional Lab Tests to Consider

PTH-intact for Parathyroid function.

24 hr. Urine test (calcium) for excessive urinary calcium.

Calcium- serum and ionized for calcium in bloodstream.

GFR for glomerular filtration rate-kidney function.

Creatinine - CCr or CrCl for kidney function.

Magnesium RBC for low magnesium intake.

Celiac profile for celiac disease.

Hormone test for estradiol, testosterone, DHEA, progesterone.

Cortisol for low cortisol level, adrenal insufficiency.

Homocysteine for elevated level of amino acid homocysteine.

HS-CRP for Inflammation marker.

Bone markers

  • for bone remodeling: osteocalcin, alkaline phosphatase, P1NP

  • for bone resorption: NTx, Cox, DPD, CTX

ESR elevated when acute or chronic inflammation.

Prolactin for increase in hormone lead to bone loss.

Calcitriol marker for parathyroid.

Lipid peroxides evaluates oxidative stress.
